See an American Record Guide Review of “From East to West”

From the March/April 2025 issue of American Record Guide magazine, a review of composer Dan Locklair’s From East to West Convivium Records CD of choral works, performed by England’s David Goode, organ, the Onyx Brass and Royal Holloway Choir, led by Rupert Gough, “It is rare to see American choral music recorded by an English choir. Dan Locklair is a prominent composer who has written numerous works for nearly every medium: orchestral, chamber, instrumental, dramatic, sacred and secular choral, piano, and organ.

This program contains a selection of his sacred choral pieces on texts from Christmas to Easter. Many are recorded for the first time, including the three Latin motets on familiar Christmas texts, a mass for double choir, and anthems accompanied by organ and brass. Most are under 5 minutes and would prove very useful for church choirs. They are beautifully written—deeply expressive of the texts—and the choir gives superlative performances. This pairs nicely with another recording of his music by the Winchester College Chapel Choir (also on Convivium).” More about the release at https://conviviumrecords.co.uk/product/dan-locklair-from-east-to-west/.
